After a long delay, a suburban Philadelphia train station will be replaced with a $24 million facility.

Built in 1953, the Levittown Train Station is the third-busiest stop on the Trenton Regional Rail Line. More than 1,200 commuter trips begin or end at the station on an average weekday.

Lt. Gov. James Cawley said at a news conference that the rundown station had far outlived its usefulness.

SEPTA officials say the project was delayed for two years due to state funding cuts. A recent state transportation funding measure put it back on track.

The Bucks County Courier-Times reports work is expected to begin in the fall and take three years.
