A 44-year-old Newark man was killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 95 in Wilmington, Delaware Thursday morning, police revealed Thursday afternoon.
The deadly crash slowed traffic on I-95 for hours during the morning rush.
An initial investigation showed that around 5:30, the man lost control of the Nissan Altima he was driving, hit a concrete median, then ended up facing north in the southbound lanes of the highway.
The Nissan was then struck by a Toyota Camry, driven by a 54-year-old Wilmington man, police said. After the collission, the Toyota caught fire, but the man was able to escape the vehicle before it was engulfed.
The driver of the Nissan died at the scene while the other driver was taken to Christiana Hospital and treated for non life-threatening injuries, police said.
The southbound lanes of the highway were closed for nearly six hours during the investigation.
