A state trooper and innocent bystanders were lucky escape with none of very little injuries after a driver suspected of being under the influence slammed into a police SUV on the side of a busy area highway this morning.
Pennsylvania State Police say that one of their own troopers had pulled off to the shoulder of I-95 southbound near mile-marker 3.6 in Chester Township, Delaware County, Pa. around 4 a.m. this morning to help a motorist who had run out of gas.
As Police Cpl. Gregory D. Shuck and the occupants of the out-of-gas car stood next to their cars a 2003 Ford Windstar came barreling down the shoulder and collided with Shuck’s 2013 Ford Explorer police vehicle, which had its lights on, pushing the SUV into a 2004 Saturn Ion.
Cpl. Shuck wasn’t injured and the three occupants of the Ion -- two New Castle, Del. residents and a Brooklyn, N.Y. man -- suffered only minor injuries, according to police.
The driver of the Windstar -- Randall Boyles III, 23, of Chester, Pa. -- wasn’t hurt. His passengers -- Tahj Richardson, 22, of Upper Chichester, Pa. and Breon Holland , 20, of Chester -- suffered severe injuries, according to police.
Police arrested Boyles on suspicion of drunk driving and charged with DUI, aggravated assault, driving with a suspended or revoked license, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and other counts. He was sent to county jail unable to post 10 percent of $150,000 bail, according to courts records.
Boyles has a history of moving violation charges including pleading guilty to speeding, driving without license and not properly yielding while driving, according to online court records.

The roadway remained closed for about two hours while police investigated.
