Hey drivers -- sick of having to slow down when you cross the river?

Soon drivers on the Betsy Ross Bridge won’t need to slow down to pay their way across the Delaware River, according to the Delaware River Port Authority.

New toll booth lanes will use overheard sensors to charge E-ZPass drivers. The express lanes were set to open in 2011, said officials.

Not only will the lanes save drivers time but they will also save the environment.

“Express E-ZPass will reduce vehicle emissions, which means less air pollution, lower travel times and provide an added convenience for our customers,” said DRPA CEO, John J. Matheussen.

If all works well on the BRB than the program could be used on other bridges like the Commodore Barry Bridge, said officials.
