Major traffic problems are clearing up for Schuylkill commuters. The 476 ramp onto 76 West is open again after hazmat crews cleaned a spill and moved an overturned tractor-trailer.
A truck hauling hazardous chemicals overturned Tuesday afternoon, spilling hydrochloric acid onto the road. Hazmat crews said there was not health threat to anyone in the area, but the clean-up was a "delicate matter."
Crews uprighted the big right and were re-opening the Matsonford Road ramp to I-76 West and the I-476 North ramp to West I-76. That's where the truck was located.
Here are some detours to consider if you want to get around the backups in that area.
I-476 NORTH RAMP TO I-76 WEST: The detour is to follow northbound I-476 to the Chemical Road Exit, turn right on Chemical Road, turn right on Ridge Pike and follow to access the ramp to I-476 South. Take I-476 South to I-76 West.
I-76 EAST & WEST RAMPS TO I-476 NORTH: Take I-476 South to the Route 30 (Villanova/St. Davids) Exit, then turn right onto Route 30 and turn left onto the ramp to I-476 North.
MATSONFORD ROAD RAMP to I-476 NORTH: Take I-476 South to the Route 30 (Villanova/St. Davids) Exit, then turn right onto Route 30 and turn left onto the ramp to I-476 North.
MATSONFORD ROAD RAMP TO I-76 WEST: Take Matsonford Road to Gulph Road. Follow Gulph Road to the on-ramp to I-76 West in Upper Merion Township.
