The overnight closures will be along the Garden State Parkway between Interchanges 9 to 11.

Construction is coming to a popular Jersey Shore route this week.

Work begins Monday night on the Garden State Parkway in Cape May County -- as crews shut down the road in both directions between mile markers 7.4 and 11.9 in Middle Township.

The full closures are part of the New Jersey Turnpike Authority’s two-year plan to build an overpass at three interchanges (Shell Bay Avenue, Stone Harbor Boulevard and Crest Haven Road) that currently have traffic signals, according to a press release from NJTA.

The intersections -- especially Stone Harbor Boulevard -- are used by people visiting towns like Stone Harbor and Cape May Court House.

The weather-permitting closures will go from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. through Thursday night into Friday morning. Detours will be marked by signs and police will direct motorists around the closures.

New Jersey transportation officials say the $110-million project will improve traffic safety and ease congestion. They say that normal lanes of travel will be available by the summer.
