Drivers headed to the Lehigh Valley and Poconos will soon be able to zip through those dreaded tollbooths.

Express E-ZPass lanes will be added along the I-80 and I-78 Interstate bridges that span the Delaware River. The automated toll will allow motorists to keep up their speed as they pay. But the new plan won't take effect immediately.

More than 50,000 cars use the bridges everyday on average. During some weekends and holidays traffic along I-80 and I-78 can come to a standstill -- these new lanes can hopefully speed things up.

But don’t expect the lanes to be installed by tomorrow. The plan is to open the express lanes by next Memorial Day (May 31, 2010).

Until then, commuters will have to face the current situation and deal with traffic.
