Driver Dies After Car Slams Into Pole Along Columbus Boulevard in South Philly

A driver lost control of his car and slammed into a pole along a popular shopping street in Philadelphia.

The gray sedan hopped a curb and struck a utility pole along S Columbus Boulevard near Oregon Avenue in South Philadelphia -- that’s a short distance from where many box stores are -- around 7:15 a.m.

The unidentified 47-year-old driver died at the scene, according to Philadelphia Police.

The impact of the crash caused the back half of the car to bend forward.

Drivers in the area could experience some delays as accident investigators remained on the scene to try and figure out what happened.

No power outages were reported in the area.
