Traffic Mess on Route 202

4 people hurt

An overturned truck, smashed highway divider and multi-car crash snarled traffic along a busy highway for more than four hours today.

The long truck tipped over in the northbound lane around 8:45 a.m. in a construction zone along U.S. Route 202 northbound in Tredyffrin Township, Chester County as part of a multi-vehicle crash.

Route 202 was closed in both directions in the area of Cedar Hollow Road near Pa. Route 29 as crews worked to clear the scene and get the center divider back in place.

Four people were hurt and one needed to be medivaced from the scene.

Tredyffrin police didn't identify any of the drivers but they did say that three suffered non-life-threatening injuries and were expected to be released from the hospital today. The medivaced victim was rushed to Reading Hospital where he remained in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

As SkyForce10 hovered overhead you could see the truck on its side and a smashed van in the northbound lanes as well as a destroyed middle barrier that appeared to push into a sedan and van that were driving in the other direction.

Traffic completely stopped as crews worked on both sides of the highway. Traffic was being diverted off the roadway at Chesterbrook Boulevard.

The roadway was expected to be closed for hours, according to police.

Swedesford Road was used as an alternate route but backed up as a result. After a couple hours, crews began turning around motorists stuck on the highway behind the wreck so they could get off the roadway.

Crews cleared the wreckage, replaced the barricade and cleared debris and reopened the road to traffic around 1 p.m.
