Girl Dies When Sports Car, Minivan Collide Along Cheltenham Avenue

A crash on a road dividing two local counties left a young girl dead and two people hurt.

The wreck between a black Ford Mustang with white racing stripes and a tan minivan left Cheltenham Avenue closed on the Philadelphia side of Cheltenham Avenue where the road goes under Old York Road in the Oak Lane section of the city around 8:15 a.m. Friday.

Crews from Philadelphia and Montgomery Counties responded to the scene.

Medics rushed an 11-year-old girl, who was riding in the Mustang, to Einstein Medical Center where she died a short time later, said Philadelphia Police. Medics also rushed the 35-year-old female driver of the Mustang to Einstein with undisclosed injuries.

Medics rushed the van's 40-year-old female driver to Einstein in stable condition with neck and back pain.

An initial investigation revealed the Mustang was headed westbound on Cheltenham Avenue when it struck a wall and stopped in the path of oncoming traffic. The van then slammed into the car in the eastbound (Philly side) of the road.
