Truck Driver Dies as Big Rig Overturns on Atlantic City Expressway

A truck driver died in a crash on the Atlantic City Expressway that also injured another motorist, said New Jersey State Police.

The wreck happened just before 5 a.m. Wednesday in the westbound lanes near mile-marker 27 in Hammonton.

Sgt. 1st Class Gregory Williams said a tractor-trailer owned by a company in Brick Township overturned and the trailer blocked two lanes.

Williams said a Jeep Cherokee hit the trailer, injuring the driver, who was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver was trapped in the cab and died.

State Police closed the left lanes of both the eastbound and westbound directions and occasionally stopped all traffic as they investigated and worked to clear the crash, which wound in the grassy medium.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation Wednesday.
