Four train conductors were arrested Wednesday for allegedly selling stolen train tickets in New Jersey.
Wilbert Townsend, 47, Marquise Richardson, 40, Robert Nemeth, 67, and Andrew Paloti, 46, were charged with commercial bribery, official misconduct and theft, according to the Essex County prosecutor’s office.
Prosecutors say the men were part of a scheme in which they collected tickets from passengers and, instead of canceling the tickets like they’re supposed to, they bundled and resold them to monthly passengers at a major discount. The men would charge passengers between $100 and $200 for a bundle of 40 tickets, about a third of the cost of a monthly ticket, and the tickets don’t expire.
All four men have been released and are scheduled to make their first court appearance on August 18.
Nemeth retired in May and the three other men have been suspended without pay.
It was not immediately known if the men had attorneys.
