A man is dead after a crash caused two cars to catch fire in the Mount Airy section of the city.
Police say a 19-year-old man was driving a red 2001 Ford Taurus southbound on Lincoln Drive while a 31-year-old man was driving a 2002 White Toyota Tacoma northbound. Police say the 19-year-old suddenly lost control of his vehicle and went into the path of the Toyota, causing the two vehicles to collide and burst into flames.
Both men were trapped inside their cars. The 19-year-old man, who has not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at 4:45 p.m. Crews were able to extract the 31-year-old man and take him to the hospital. He is currently in stable condition.
Lincoln Drive was shut down for several hours in both directions after the crash. It has since been reopened. Police continue to investigate.
