A crisp, retro diner atmosphere welcomes customers into this corner caf� that’s just a few doors down from the Keswick Theater in Glenside. The Village Diner is the perfect spot to grab coffee and catch up with old friends. The cozy confines give the diner a home-like quality in stark contrast to some sterile mega-diners. Lots of shiny white tables, red vinyl booths and stainless steel accent the pop art look which is completed by posters of the Three Stooges and classic cartoons. For fans of breakfast, this is the place to be.
Slide up to the counter and order from a host of morning specialties. Favorites are cream cheese-stuffed French toast, grits and extra fluffy pancakes. There’s also breakfast classics, like eggs, any way you’d like them. Served up with some crispy hash browns and toast, the breakfast menu is a great way to start your day or provide an afternoon pick-me-up.
The diner’s lunch fare is not as finely tuned. For instance, the cheesesteak hoagie ($6.85) is loaded with large chunks of steak and a small serving of cheese, while the grilled cheese ($4.95) is small and rather uneventful, and although the Rueben sandwich is generously portioned, it’s not outstanding. Also, the diner advertises its thick milkshakes, but you might not get one as the diner often out of ice cream and when the shakes are available, they’re thinner than desired.
Let’s focus on the positive, breakfast is great and this is a cute little stop that’s just right for a morning meal.
