The ice cream at A La Mode is anything but basic and it’s reasonably price, plus there’s none of the sugar laden confection that other ice cream parlors offer. Let’s face it, places like Dairy Queen and Cold Stone tend to offer more of the same, so they prevent themselves from distinction in any way.
The ice cream flavors at A La Mode are the same traditional options you’ll find everywhere else, only more delicious. The proof is in the product. Take the Banana split ($7), with two huge banana slices, heaping scoops of ice cream (your choice), wet walnuts, caramel sauce and topped with sweet, airy, homemade whipped cream. Is your Mouth watering yet? The cookie mountain (literally), is equipped with three large scoops of homemade vanilla ice cream, showered with chocolate chips, caramel, hot fudge, whip cream and wedged with a soft, fresh chocolate chip cookie ($7). Still unsatisfied!? A La Mode has plenty of other sundaes excessively packed with mountains of ice cream and assorted toppings. They also make hot waffles and fudge brownies there on the spot and accompany them with your choice of flavored ice cream as well.
In the end, you can find ice cream basically everywhere, even at the local grocery store, but it’s rare to discover a place that takes something basic and serves it with so much warmth, heart and old-fashioned homemade greatness. Someone may have to wheel you out of A La Mode, but you’ll leave happy.
