Stephen's on State

State Street in Media is a mecca of hip restaurants for the professional class. Stephen’s on State is a great choice, especially on warm sunny days, with little tables next to huge open windows that allow diners to enjoy their meal with a side of fresh air. With the exception of these windows, the dining room is fairly plain, with minimal decoration (only a few pieces of art adorn the walls) however, the warm colors are both inviting and relaxing.

The menu at Stephen’s on State is jam-packed with a variety of dishes, mostly American and some with a touch of Cuban flare. The coconut tuna ceviche (habanero chiles, plantain chips, and lime sorbet, $10.95) and the guava glazed babyback ribs (corn and jalapeno relish with crispy fried sweet potatoes, $8.95) are both excellent appetizers, full of flavor, and large enough to share. With an array of original salads to choose from like the baby lettuce (grannysmith apples, walnuts, and bleu cheese crumbles in a champagne vinaigrette, $7.95), make sure to save room for dinner. The homemade gnocchi’s (chicken, prosciutto, wild mushrooms, and leeks in a sage butter sauce, $16.95)) come highly recommended. Surprisingly, the dish is not too heavy which leaves plenty of room to order dessert.

Adding to a pleasant experience at Stephen’s is the service. The host, bartender, and servers are all very polite and helpful, able to make suggestions and recommend appetizer and dinner options.

Stephen’s also has nightly dinner specials and live entertainment and dancing Wednesday through Saturdays. Stephen’s on State is a safe bet for good food, good company, great service, and a great experience.
