Latin Chef Jose Garces’ restaurant Distrito, winner of Philadelphia Magazine’s “Best New Restaurant of 2009,” has something new for you in September.

The Cantina at Distrito will open on the first floor of the two-level Distrito on Monday.

The expanded floor will feature a new menu with all items under $10. The menu includes various tacos, Mission-style quesadillas, low-priced margaritas and Mexican beer specials starting with $2 cans of Tecate.

Given the restaurant's moderate prices, menu selection and location in University City, the Cantina should attract a lot of college students looking for a fun, inexpensive meal in a festive atmosphere.

“Distrito is the most exciting and fun restaurant in our family and our Cantina menu makes it even more accessible to area students who prefer to hang out with friends over cocktails and snacks rather than indulging in a full meal,” said Chef Jose Garces.

The Cantina at Distrito will open at 3 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 4 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
