GIANT food stores announced Friday that the five more former Genuardi's stores will officially become GIANT Food Stores this weekend.

Last month, GIANT Food Stores announced that they would transfer 15 recently purchased Genuardi’s Family Markets in the Philadelphia area into GIANT markets. Part of the changeover includes closing stores for about 10 days so that signage, etc. could be changed.

The first five renamed stores re-opened last weekend.

"We are gratified that we have already received positive customer feedback as a result of the first five stores that opened earlier this week, and we look forward to introducing more customers to the quality, savings and selection that GIANT has to offer," said GIANT president Rick Herring in a press release.

On Sunday five more Pennsylvania stores will celebrate grand re-openings

  • King of Prussia (310 S. Henderson Pike)
  • Roslyn (2350 Susquehanna Road)
  • Spring House (1121 Bethlehem Pike)
  • Springfield (950 Baltimore Pike)
  • Wynnewood (50 E. Wynnewood Road)

"With these grand openings, we will be more than halfway through the conversion process of the fifteen former Genuardi’s stores," said Herring.

Features in the renamed stores include new self-checkouts, healthy-themed labeling and a selection of locally-grown produce, according to GIANT.

Of course the grand openings also include some freebies. The first 200 customers at each store will get a pack of English muffins and a reusable shopping bag. The first 500 shoppers will get a loaf of bread.

The remaining five Genuardi's stores (Flourtown, Maple Glen, Langhorne, Chalfont and St. Davids) will re-open as GIANT stores by July 22.
