For the unfamiliar, a latke is a fried potato pancake traditionally served by Jews during Hanukkah—think half nugget, half french fry. But much, much yummier.
Ordinarily, a latke might be flavored with onion and topped with apple sauce or sour cream. It’s pretty darn good as-is—but for Latkepalooza, Philadelphia's celebration of the iconic potato pancake, some of the area’s top chefs have kicked the traditional treat up about, well, eight notches.
That’s right: the creative minds from restaurants like Midatlantic, Supper, Estia and Jones (to name just a few) will put their own spin on the potato pancake.
For this year's eighth annual event, there’ll be face painting, clowns and activities for families in addition to all the fried potato fun.
Tickets are $15 for adults, $5 for children. The festivities run from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Gershman Y (401 S. Broad St.), Sunday, Dec. 5. For more information, call 215.446.3021, or visit the Gershman’s Web site.
