Beat the Heat with Frozen Treats

Head to Reading Terminal Market this Saturday for a big party with lots of ice cream!

There will be fun for the whole family this weekend as local ice cream company, Bassetts, throws their fifth ice cream festival.

Reading Terminal Market is the place to be this Saturday, July 16 as Bassetts celebrates our favorite frozen treat as well as their birthday!

The festival commences at 10 a.m. in the Center Court of Reading Terminal Market. There will be frozen treats from Miller’s Twist, Capogiro Gelato, Franklin Fountain and Uncle Dave’s Homemade Ice Cream at Shady Brook Farm.

There will be ice cream eating contests and tastings, ice cream juggling, ice cream shuffleboard, live music and arts and crafts -- all sure to satisfy the sweet teeth of children and adults alike.

In honor of the company’s 150th birthday, they will debut their George Washington sundae -- cherry vanilla ice cream with fresh blueberries, walnuts and whipped cream. The sundae is in conjunction with the new exhibit at the National Constitution Center, “Discover the Real George Washington.”

At 2 p.m. three generations of Bassetts will be cutting birthday cakes to kick off their birthday festivities.
