That Girl: Tiffany Hamilton

This week's That Girl Profile is Tiffany Hamilton.

This week's Profile is Tiffany Hamilton of Philadelphia, PA. Philly Fashion guru Catriona Whitehead tells us why Tiffany is this week's That Girl.

What I like about this look?

I met her on her way to work one morning and was struck by the line of her dress and the subtle sex-appeal of her shoes. She demonstrates that work-appropriate and stuffy are not necessarily synonymous with one another. Her dress comes to her knees, it covers her bust, and has a modest fatigue green complexion; however, it also nips in at the smallest part of her waist, bells out around her hips, and hugs her bust, speaking towards her femininity. This is the challenge, and the necessary balance, women go through each day when dressing for work: how do we appear professional and invite respect without de-feminizing ourselves? Well, a dress like this is an easy trick. To kick it up a notch, this lovely lady has added a strappy black wedge, a smart black blazer, a slicked back bun, and a bright poppy colored purse. The slicked back bun signifies practicality and preparedness for the day—her hair is out of the way and fully exposes her face, facilitating eye contact. The wedges demonstrate sensuality—they improve her posture and elongate her legs, while the t-strap gives off a sense of exposure. The black blazer suggests business and indicates her ability to complete a task—it emulates the male power suit and serves as the third piece to complete her ensemble. Last, but certainly not least, the poppy colored bag denotes creative thinking, courage, pizzazz, spark…need I say more?

Where could this outfit be worn?

Dresses similar to this one are the Aime Trench Dress, Armani Collezioni Sleeveless Trench Dress, Customized Insignia A-Line Shirt Dress with Sash from Rebecca & Drew, Donna Karen Crepe Trench Dress, Donna Ricco Surplice Cotton Shirtdress, Pewter Stretch Cotton Knotted Front Long Sleeve Shirtdress by Celine, and the V-Neck Woven Shirtdress by Ralph Lauren. A t-strap wedge can be found at Aldo, Barneys New York, Charlotte Russe, Forever 21, Steve Madden, The Shoes Box, and Tory Burch.

Style tip?

My one styling tip would be to go with a thinner belt around the waistband. Right now, this thick belt has too much mass in comparison to the compact sleekness of the black blazer, the t-straps, and the feminine cotton dress.
