Singer Gwen Stefani arrives at the MOCA New 30th Anniversary Gala held at MOCA on November 14, 2009 in Los Angeles, California.

On Saturday night in Los Angeles, the stars aligned in support of the Museum of Contemporary Art’s New 30th Anniversary Gala at MOCA Grand Avenue. The event celebrated MOCA’s first 30 years at MOCA Grand Avenue with a private preview of the new collection, which features 500 pieces of artwork by more than 200 artists from the museum’s permanent collection of nearly 6,000 works. The stars in attendance included Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Pierce Brosnan, Gwen Stefani, Kate Beckinsale, Kate Bosworth and many other big-name celebrities.

Fashionably speaking, the night was fascinating. Many of the stars took some style risks; maybe they were feeling artsy!? Here are a few notable looks:

Gwen Stefani – Stefani wore black pants with a black and white bustier top. The top looked similar to a lampshade in shape and form – it was stiff and rigid. The base was white and had black lace embellishments. Stefani wore black Gladiator sandals.

Marisa Tomei – Tomei wore a bright pink, 50’s-inspired tea-length dress with a little poof to the skirt. (The word “bright” is the operative word, here!) She paired the dress with nude peep-toe pumps. She looked like she was going to a summer wedding or tea party. She wore here hair low and loosely pulled back. Very Mad Men. She looked great!

Chloe Sevigny – Sevigny’s always good for a style risk, but on Saturday, her look was even off the charts for her. She wore an above-the-knee dress with short sleeves and a mock turtleneck. The dress was very light-weight and the base was white. There were accents of gray and yellow. Part of the top half was sheer. There were bright, shiny crystal embellishments, applied in the shape of a large bow. She had her hair pulled back, but it looked rather disheveled. She wore an odd shade of purple/pink lipstick. I did love her yellow, strappy platform sandals!

Sandra Oh – Oh does take a few fashion risks from time to time. In fact, at the 2006 Emmys, Oh wore layers and layers of large necklaces, fast-forwarding a trend we still see today. At the MOCA event, Oh wore a pair of black pants that ballooned a little at the legs and then tapered just above the ankle. She wore black hosiery/socks and black patent leather shoes. On top, Oh wore a white tuxedo shirt that was buttoned low and was fitted in the bodice. The sleeves were puffy and gathered above the wrist, creating a balloon effect, very similar to the basic design of the pants.
