Cheap Chica's Guide: Make the Most Out of Your Closet

You spend so much money on clothes for the office, for weekends, for nights out. It's like you need three, four or five different wardrobes to stay in style. But your wallet definitely takes a hit with that mindset. So, there is a way for you to shop and wear one wardrobe in multiple settings--how nice would that be, right?

Here are five tips to make the most out of your closet:

Build a Foundation
Before you buy anything else, make sure you own the basics-- A great white shirt, an A-line dress, a well tailored pair of dark pants, a pencil skirt in a solid color, layering shells like blazers, sweater sets, vests, or jackets and jeans you LOVE.

Color Code Your Clothes
When you find colors that work for you, stick with them.  If you build your wardrobe around one neutral color and one accent color you’ll ensure that everything in your closet “goes” and the result is a well-coordinated closet.

Buy Separates
If you really want to maximize your clothing combos, try buying classic separates like pencil skirts and feminine tops instead of just dresses.  You can mix and match all of these pieces to create endless outfits that can be tailored for multiple occasions.

Invest in Accessories
There’s no faster (or cheaper) way to update what you already own than by adding some fun accessories.  A belt can instantly transform a tunic into a sexy dress and a great pair of shoes can take a pair of jeans from not to hot in no time.

Spend Time Coming Up With New Looks
I know you might hate to hear it, but it’s true – looking fashionable isn’t always effortless. If you want to take full advantage of what you have (without spending any money), you need to spend some time creating new outfits from what you already own.  Challenge yourself to make two new looks per item and you’ll literally double your wardrobe options.
