Get Your Skate on

The Blue Cross RiverRink opens Friday, Nov. 25 at noon.

Looking for a cool way to kick off the holidays?

Well, you're in luck, because the finishing touches are being put on the Blue Cross RiverRink at Penn's Landing and it'll be open for business in just a few hours! The best part? You don't need to worry about falling through the ice (if that happens to be a fear of yours) and you get to enjoy a great view of the river.

For the 18th year, the Olympic size rink is being frozen on top of a parking lot -- and will stay frozen throughout the whole season thanks to some confusing technology having to do with water and anti-freeze and little tubes keeping it solid.

The rink will open on Friday, Nov. 25 at noon with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and FREE concert featuring teen heartthrob Cody Simpson (yeah, we had to look him up, too). Plus, two lucky skaters will be selected to meet Cody.

The concert is being hosted by Q102. The station will be playing games and handing out prizes.

Pictures will also be given out as a way to remember the day.

Admission is $8 to $9 depending on the hours and skate rentals will run you $3.

If skating isn't your thing, you'll still find ways to enjoy yourself by heading inside to enjoy the snack bar and game room. Oh, and the heat!

The rink is located on Columbus Blvd. at Market Street and is the city's only outdoor public ice rink. For a full schedule of skating times and other events at the rink, click here.
