The Philadelphia Inquirer and puzzle-pro Will Shortz have joined forces to host the 3rd Annual Philadelphia Inquirer Sudoku National Championship right here in Philly on Oct. 24.

The event boasts itself as the largest puzzle championship in the U.S. and is offering a total of $25,000 in prizes. The winner could potentially end up in the Guinness Book of World Records, wins $10,000 and gets a spot on the U.S. World Sudoku Team.

For those of you who don't know what Sudoku is, let us clarify. Sudoku is a simple logic game, the only rule being that the numbers one through nine need to appear once in each row, column and box of the puzzle. Apparently, it's extremely addictive and not as easy as it may sound -- try it here.

Anyone can register to participate -- age doesn't matter when it comes to Sudoku ability, just brain power. In this year's competition the contestants range from eight to 93 years old.

Even if you don't think you can handle the competition, head to the Philadelphia Convention Center and see the brainiacs in action.
