    Do you ever feel like the sparks will rain down on you and burn holes in your flesh? No? Just us? Well then, enjoy the Herndon Fest.

    If you’re staying in the Philadelphia area for New Year’s Eve and have yet to make plans to ring in the New Year, don’t worry. This year, there is a wide range of NYE festivities that promise to end 2011 with a bang. Below are just a few of the NYE parties, unique and non-traditional NYE events and family-friendly NYE celebrations happening in the area.

    For those who like to party like its 2012 check out some of these NYE festivities:

    A Lucky Night in Philly at Lucky Strike:  Beginning at 8 p.m. Lucky Strike Lounge and Lanes in Rittenhouse Square will host a five hour open bar with a world-renowned DJ playing hits from the top 40, hip hop and dance.

    McFadden’s NYE Party: McFadden’s will host its NYE party from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. General admission tickets will get you a five hour top shelf open bar, light food buffets, live countdown at midnight with a champagne toast and multiple DJ’s playing the best club music. Still not enough?  Upgrade to VIP tickets and get the VIP treatment.

    Make Some Noise at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia: Celebrate the New Year at the Hyatt’s Make Some Noise This New Year's Eve party. The fun starts with a family party from 4 to 6 p.m. that features a kid-friendly dinner buffet, face painting and more family activities for $55 for adults at $25 per kid (3 to 12). Then the adult party gets going at 8 p.m. and includes a dinner buffet seafood bar and wine then later a champagne, dancing and indulgent desserts before the fireworks show at midnight.

    Deep Sea Splash NYE Party: The Adventure Aquarium in Camden, N.J. will host its Deep Sea Splash NYE Party. The party offers an open bar, hors d’oeuvres, music, access to aquarium exhibits and great views of the fireworks show.

    Hollywood and Vienna at the Delaware Symphony Orchestra: The Delaware Symphony Orchestra is teaming up with the Delaware Art Museum to host its New Year’s Eve Celebration: Hollywood and Vienna at 7:30 p.m. The first half of the symphony will feature music from popular classics like Gone with the Wind and Lawrence of Arabia and the second half will feature the Strauss Viennese Waltzes and Polkas. After the concert the Delaware Art Museum will host a celebration with champagne, food, music and art.

    Not into the party scene or looking for something a little more unique? Try some of these ideas. Not only are they fun and different, they are far less expensive than the popular club/bar parties:

    Studio 34 Yoga NYE Party:  Studio 34 Yoga is offering a two hour all-levels yoga class from 8 to 10 p.m. The class includes meditation, breathing exercises, seated and standing poses and more.  Afterwards hot tea and mochi (sweet Japanese rice cakes) will be served. Suggested donation for the class is $5 to $15.

    Toast with a Ghost: Take a candlelight Ghost Tour of Powel House in Society Hill and enjoy some champagne at the 2nd annual New Year’s Eve Ghost Tour. Tickets are $25 per person. A portion of proceeds will benefit The Philadelphia Society for the Preservation of Landmarks.

    Sing in the New Year at the Kimmel Center: Celebrate NYE and the Kimmel Center’s 10-year anniversary, for free! Starting at 5:30 p.m., the Kimmel Center will host a series of performances from Vaughan Williams, Andrea Clearfield, Handel and more. Wolfgang Puck will offer specialty treats during the performances including Snowflake Martinis, Candy Cane Cocoa and Pigs in a Blanket.

    Looking for some family-friendly fun for the whole family? Check out these places that have something for everyone:

    NYE Celebration at Longwood Gardens: From 3 to 10 p.m. Longwood Gardens will host a number of fun activities for the entire family including party hat making, magicians and jugglers and musical performances throughout the Gardens. Don’t miss Longwood’s new firework display at 6pm!

    NYE at the Blue Cross River Rink: Enjoy a night of ice skating at the Olympic-sized ice rink at Penn’s Landing. The rink will host two parties this year. The first from 5 to 7 p.m. will feature snacks, face painting and the first fireworks show at 6pm. The second party from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m. will feature party favors, entertainers and the second fireworks show at midnight.

    First Night Haddonfield 2012: Hop over the bridge and enjoy a family-friendly, alcohol free celebration of the arts in Haddonfield, N.J. There will be live music, dancing and acting performances as well as many local food vendors throughout the town.
