Philly Celebrates the Flag

Numerous area celebrations honored our stars and stripes.

Tuesday, June 14 is Flag Day. And Philadelphia celebrated the American Flag with gusto!

At the Betsy Ross House, Rally Round the Flag event taught visitors about the dangers of being a “flagbearer” in battle during the Civil War. Betsy Ross' flags were also displayed.

For patriotic visitors, Independence Hall was open for everyone and just across Independence Mall, one of the largest Flag Day exhibitions in the country was taking place.

At the National Constitution Center, there was a flag-raising ceremony, a show on the history of Francis Scott Key, the folding of a giant American flag and arts and crafts workshops.

Americans were not only enthusiastically raising their flags at home, they were also doing it in public. North Wildwood, N.J. hosted a special flag raising at Veterans Monument.
