Paper Art Without the Paper Cuts

Check out unique lace-like paper art at Hudson Beach Glass.

Hudson Beach Glass in Old City invites you to the opening of it's newest exhibit, Plumage, on Friday, May 7.

Emily Gilvey, the store's owner, collaborated with fibers artist Gail Cunningham for the show.

“We are very excited to be hosting this show because I really think it will be one of the last where her work is so affordable,” Gilvey says of Cunningham.

Plumage displays unique works of lace-like paper art.

“I am still in the process of working on what's going into the show. Right now I have five large pieces and a few smaller ones, though I'm hoping to get at least one more large image out in the next couple weeks,” Cunningham said in a statement.

Her pieces are cut out of a single sheet of paper, making them extremely fragile.

Gilvey's husband Sean also took part in the new exhibit by designing special cups to be sold at the event. He's making the glasses by hand and Plumage designs will be sandblasted on. All of the cups will be numbered and signed by both artists.

The reception will take place from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. and the exhibit runs through the end of the month.

And while you're there, make mom the perfect Mother's Day gift by blowing your own beautiful glass flowers. It's the gift that will last a lifetime. The cost is $35 per person and help from the Gilveys will guide your every move.
