‘Young Frankenstein' in the Park

Old City’s Film Series begins with Young Frankenstein

Get into the mind of an artist with Old City’s outdoor Film Series.

Once a month, for free, you can go to Flagpole Park to see short films by local artists followed by a major motion picture.

This month's movie is on Thursday, July 29. The local artists are Ryan Kelly and David Cushway and the feature is Mel Brooks’ "Young Frankenstein" starring Gene Wilder as young Frankenstein and Cloris Leachman plays ugly Frau Blucher.

If you haven’t seen "Young Frankenstein" yet, this is a great way to see it -- in a park at dusk.

Oh, and you can bring the kids, it’s not a horror movie. It’s a comedy about Dr. Frankenstein’s grandson inheriting the castle and taking on the family business.

The little ones may complain about the lack of color -- the movie was filmed in black and white to give it that old "monster movie" feel.

So pack up your lawn chairs and blankets, pop the popcorn before you leave the house and get to Flagpole Park next to The Clay Studio and Elfreth's Alley in Old City.

Stay tuned for next month’s movie -- the claymation film Wallace & Gromit along with claymation shorts created by kids at Clay Camp.
