A contest being held by the Recreation Commission for Delanco Township is giving residents the opportunity to come up with a name for a new New Jersey park set to be built in the spring, according to PhillyBurbs.com.
Construction for Delanco’s newest recreational area is expected to start in March or April in the hopes of having it finished in time for fall sports, says Recreation Commissioner Keith Letizio to PhillyBurbs.com.
The park, which is being designed by the Taylor Design Group in Mount Laurel, will have traditional features like athletic fields and a playground. The design plans also include a volleyball court, 253-space parking area and a community center with public restrooms and space for concession stands.
The park will be built on Creek Road, adjacent to Burlington County’s 118-acre Pennington Park, which is currently undergoing improvements also designed by the Taylor Group, reports the online publication.
Although the parks are being built adjacent to each other, Letizio said that the landscaping for both parks is being coordinated to complement each other.
The park is estimated to cost $550,650 with some of the money coming from grants and the rest from a loan.
So now, all the new park needs is a name – and that’s where you come in.
Contestants must write a one-page summary about the park name of their choice and why they think it is a suitable name.
Five finalists will be chosen by the Recreation Commission after reviewing all submissions. The Township Committee will then be presented with the finalists and a winner will be chosen.
The winner of the contest will take part in the park’s groundbreaking ceremony and will receive a shovel engraved with his or her name, the date and the park’s name.
The deadline to enter the contest is March 9.
Mail submissions to the Delanco Recreation Commission, 770 Coopertown Road, Delanco, N.J. 08075. Submissions may also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com.
