Musikfest Concert Sales Blow Last Year's Right Out of the ‘Platz'

Musikfest, which brings one million plus people to Bethlehem every summer, is about to begin its 10-day run on Friday.

More than 46,500 tickets have already been sold – about 2,000-plus more than were sold by the end of last year’s festival.

The spike in ticket sales could have a lot to do with the lineup.

There are more mainstream pop artists than in previous years including Selena Gomez, Adam Lambert, Norah Jones, and the highly-anticipated return of Sublime with (new front man) Rome.

Gomez, Disney Channel’s teen star of “Wizard’s of Waverly Place,” was the third-fastest sellout in RiverPlace history, according to The Morning Call’s blog, Lehigh Valley Music

It took only 11 days for the teenyboppers to suck up the tickets and it’s the first show to sell out in two years, the blog reported.

While the lineup seems to cater to younger fans (last year featured more seasoned artists like Crosby, Stills and Nash, Blondie and Pat Benatar; and Joan Jett and the B-52s), the RiverPlace will still indulge music fans of all ages, including four bands from the 70s.

Lynyrd Skynyrd, Styx, Heart, and The Doobie Brothers will be performing.

Musikfest is from Aug. 6 until Aug. 15. Check out their website for a full list of the lineup and show dates.
