Today marks the first full day of fall and if you're looking for some fall fun, look no further. We've got the scoop on some fantastic fall festivities to fulfill your autumn agenda.
Midtown Village Fall Festival: Now through October, head to McGillin's for a variety of German beer and German food. Then, on October 2, the Midtown neighborhood will be transformed into an Oktoberfest celebration, sorta like "Beerfest." Alright, that's a total exaggeration, but it will be pretty fun.
From Walnut to Chestnut and 12th to Juniper, the streets will be filled with live performers, music, activities, food and more beginning at noon.
Food Series: Fall Harvest: Ever wonder what fall was like in the 18th century? No need to wonder, you can experience it for yourself at the Peter Wentz Farmstead in Worcester, Pa. On September 25 at 10 a.m. learn all cider pressing, the preservation of fruits and veggies and much more for a suggested donation of $2.
Fall Festival at Morris Arboretum: This fest is an annual tradition for lots of families and maybe this season, you should make it yours. Taste apples, Paint pumpkins or design your very own scarescrow. Speaking of scaring birds, Master Falcone Mike Dupuy will be showing off his birds from noon until 2 p.m.
The Great Pumpkin Carve: From Thursday, October 21 through Saturday, October 23, the Chadds Ford Historical Society hosts The Great Pumpkin Carve. Artists begin carving their gigantic pumpkins at 5 p.m. on Thursday so they can be lit and judged under the cover of night. The pumpkins will remain on display through Saturday, when the winners will be accounced. Bring your walking shoes and a flashlight to enjoy this creepy carving competition.
Goblins in the Garden Family Festival: Bring your costumed kids to Camden Children’s Garden on October 23 and 24 to the Goblins in the Garden Family Festival. Take a haunted train ride, navigate a haunted maze and have your fortune told. You can also celebrate the Mexican holiday of Dia de los Muertos or The Day of the Dead.
Fall Family Day: Picturesque landscapes and beautiful fall foliage await you at Laurel Hill Cemetery on Sunday, October 24 when Fall Family Day takes place. Go on scavenger hunts, bob for apples and share some scary stories while touring the cemetery and enjoy autumn treats like cookies and hot apple cider. Remember to bring your kiddies along with their Halloween costumes! Families of four, pay $20. Any additional, pay $5.
Peddler’s Village Apple Festival: Enjoy all things apple at this year’s Peddler’s Village Apple Festival on November 6 and 7. Apple treats include country apple butter, apple cider, apple dumplings and caramel apples, to name just a few. You can even get a hold of fresh apples straight from the orchard. Be sure to stay for the apple pie-eating contest.
