Esparanza Spalding With Another Surprise

Surprise Grammy-winner to take the stage at the Roots Picnic

Esparanza Spalding made a name for herself when she upset Justin Bieber for the Best New Artist Grammy but she will be thrilling local music fans when she takes the stage at the 4th Annual Roots Picnic in June.

Gaining widespread national recognition overnight, after her surprising Grammy win, the talented multi-lingual musician was already known to the Roots. She played the Picnic back in 2009.

The Roots will back Spalding during her performance this year, according to PhillyChitChat.com.

The genre-blending event will bring artists such as Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti, Man Man, The Dismemberment Plan, Mac Miller, Yelawolf, Little Dragon, J. Period, Nicos Gun, Donn T and a live mixtape performance from Black Thought and DJ J. Period to Penn's Landing.

Last year, the picnic was a sold-out affair, showcasing a variety of talented musicians at Festival Pier.

Tickets will go on sale March 4th at 10 a.m. on LiveNation.com for this year's show.
