Combine your love for children, literature and exquisite cuisine, by heading over to Cochon BYOB this Tuesday, March 9.

One of the participating restaurants in "Eating for Reading," Cochon (which means "pig" in French) will give a percentage of every patron's bill to the campaign to buy books for underpriveliged children in South Philadelphia.

“It’s important to us because we’re both business owners and residents of South Philadelphia and we want to give back to the community,” said Amy Giuffi, who owns Cochon BYOB at Passyunk and Catharine with her husband, head chef Gene Giuffi.

As you enjoy Cochon's new menu unveiled just in time for Tuesday's event -- including Prince Edward Island mussels, slow-roasted suckling pig, braised pork belly, and magret duck breast -- at the restaurant lauded for its hearty French cuisine, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you are contributing to local children's literacy and education.

Sponsored by South Philadelphia Pediatrics' Reach Out and Read effort, Eating for Reading focuses on getting books into the hands of local kids so they grow into educated and successful adults. Local children ages six months to five years old will get a brand new book during their doctor visits.

Giuffi said that they were more than happy to join the cause when approached by South Philadelphia Pediatrics.

“I used to volunteer at Nebinger Elementary School reading with the children and I saw the need for material and supplies,” Guiffi said. “The earlier we get kids interested in reading, the better.”

The award-winning South Philly restaurant is just one of the restaurants participating in Tuesday's Eating for Reading.

    Other participating restaurants include:
    Bistrot La Minette
    La Fourno
    Saute
    Mustard Greens
    Trattoria Alla Costiera
    Salt & Pepper
