Get Rid of Old Prescriptions Safely

DEA's National Take-Back Initiative is Saturday at various area drop-off centers

Have some old prescriptions in the cabinet that you’re not sure what to do with?

This weekend the government is giving people the opportunity to give back prescription drugs -- no questions asked.

Saturday is the Drug Enforcement Agency’s National Take-Back Initiative.

It's a chance to clean out your medicine chest with no questions asked and no paperwork to fill out. Prescription drugs, over-the-counter medications, vitamins and inhalers will all be accepted.

Drop off locations will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. all over our area.

In April, the DEA held a drug-take-back day where they collected a record-breaking 552,161 pounds of unwanted meds.

"We are pleased at the response of the American people once again, and we thank them for participating and contributing to the battle against prescription drug abuse," said DEA Administrator Michele M. Leonhart. "While a uniform system for prescription drug disposal is being finalized, we will continue to sponsor these important take-back opportunities as a service to our communities."
