Tickle Me Pink and Robins Egg Blue will be made by the sun
Your favorite Crayola crayons will soon be made by the sun.
The Crayola Factory in Easton is ready to show the world how it’s going green -- and no, they’re not making a new shade of green, they already have plenty of those.
Crayola is unveiling a brand new 15-acre solar energy farm on Thursday, August 5.
The sun will begin making Crayola’s extensive array of crayon colors through a solar panel.
Crayola makes about three billion crayons per year. The solar panel will produce the energy to make about a third of that.
The Crayola Green Team will help celebrate the opening of the solar farm and “plug” it into the sun. The Green Team consists of 10 kids who won Crayola’s “How I Dream in Green” contest.
The search for these 10 kids began in June. Children from all over the country sent in colorful works of art that represented their ways of making the planet green. The artwork was displayed on Crayola’s Facebook page where anyone could vote for his or her favorites.
The Green Team will also be rewarded with a VIP tour through the factory and help package the new solar power crayons. They will each get a box of 64 crayons, 18 of which will be different shades of green, personalized with their names.
Beginning this back-to-school season, Crayola will post on every box of crayons, markers and colored pencils what they are doing to help the environment.
