Celebrate Franklin Square's Fifth Birthday

While temperatures remain in the 40s and 50s this week, things will be heating up at Franklin Square on Friday, April 1 -- and that's no joke.

The outdoor Philly amusement square sponsored by Historic Philadelphia Inc. will open for its fifth Birthday Season despite the cold weather.

The Square at 6th and Race Streets promises an early taste of spring for both kids and adults.

Franklin Square features a mini golf course, a scenic marble fountain, Squareburger restaurant and the Philadelphia Park Liberty Carousel.

In honor of its fifth birthday, the first 50 kids to show up will receive a free ride on the carousel while five-year-olds ride free all day long. The first five-year-old admitted will also receive a special gift.

For those older than five, don't worry, there are some goodies for you, too -- everyone can enjoy Squareburger's brand new birthday bonanza sundae that will be unveiled by Benjamin Franklin himself.

Can't make it to the opening day? Franklin Square is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. until May 26, when the hours become even more flexible.
