Atlantic City Opens 1st Gay Club

"Prohibition" opened at Resorts on Thursday with no advance notice

The first gay nightclub at an Atlantic City casino is now open.

Resorts Casino Hotel opened "Prohibition" Thursday night with no advance notice.

The name is a twist on the casino's new "Boardwalk Empire" theme based on the HBO series that takes place in Atlantic City.

Prohibition will open before Resorts' gay-themed show called "Believe - Divas In A Man's World."

It's part of a growing effort in the nation's second-largest casino market to attract gay visitors.

Atlantic City hosts a Miss America drag queen spoof each year, and some casinos offer gay bingo or special gay-themed weekend events aimed at attracting gay travelers.

The Planet Hollywood casino in Las Vegas has a gay nightclub, and several other casinos on the strip host gay nights or pool parties.
