1/9-1/10: Dancing, Donations and a Date

Pop Culture Art: Mindy Kober is a Texas-born artist whose pop culture work has received major attention recently. Kober’s paintings embody American characters as icons in recreational scenes. She explores themes of nationalism, colonialism and diaspora. Come see her uses of gouache and other mixed media on paper Saturday at the Slingluff Gallery in Northern Liberties. Lemon Ball: Come to the Lemon Ball this Saturday night to support the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, a foundation dedicated to Alexandra “Alex” Scott’s dream of curing all kids with cancer. The fourth annual ball will include cocktails, dinner, presentations, silent and live auctions as well as entertainment provided by Grammy-nominated singer, Jordin Sparks and local group, Brandywine Valley Talent. Last year the event raised over $1.5 million toward achieving Alex’s dream. Help in the fight against cancer this weekend. Dance Marathon: If you can’t go to the Lemon Ball, but still to choose to help fight childhood cancer head to the Field House instead for the second annual Penn State THON fundraiser. The event features a three-hour open bar and live entertainment by the Steam Roller Picnic. Dance your heart out all night. All proceeds go to conquering childhood cancer. Taiwan On: This Sunday night dance, eat and drink at Kong in Northern Liberties.
