You Want a Parade? Go to Scranton

Most people we tell this to do a double take: If you’re looking for a crazy, memorable St. Patrick’s Day celebration, go to Scranton.

Thousands of people line the streets of downtown Scranton on what has come to be known as “Parade Day,” the Saturday of St. Patrick's Day weekend. The parade usually includes about 5,000 performers (high school bands, Irish groups, etc.)—and in 2008, the city estimates 150,000 people were in attendance.

Scranton’s celebration is the fourth-largest St. Patrick’s Day Parade in the U.S. overall, and the second-largest, in terms of participation per population.
