Dress up like a nittany lion or maybe head coach Joe Paterno and attend a local party -- or just leave the makeup at home and go in blue and white.

Looking to roar as the Penn State Nittany Lions go on the attack against the USC Trojans at the Rose Bowl?

Penn State fans don't need to travel to Pasadena to root on Joe Paterno and his boys -- there are plenty of local places that are going to be Rosy on Thursday afternoon.

Plenty of Philly-area bars are trying to court the Penn State faithful on New Year's Day offering specials, giveaways and Lions cheers.

Looking for camaraderie and beer while you watch the game? Check out these Penn State hangouts for the best Rose Bowl specials:

Mad River, in both Old City and Manayunk, is having a Rose Bowl party for the Penn State fans in the area. Penn State alumni board members can spend only $20 for an all-inclusive night of buffet, domestic beer and well drinks. Everybody else has to shell out $30 for the festivities.

Mad River in Old City: 126 Chestnut St., Philadelphia
Mad River in Manayunk: 4100 Main St., Philadelphia

Cavanaugh’s (in Center City, NOT University City!) is one of the newer hot spots for Penn State fans. Enjoy $7 pitchers of domestic beer and the possibility of hoagies at halftime Thursday night.

Cavanaugh’s Rittenhouse: 1823 Sansom St., Philadelphia

Drinker’s Pub in Center City is opening at noon for the PSU game. Specials include $2 Miller Lite drafts and $5 pitchers, as well as $4 for any Finlandia vodka drinks. There will also be $1 tacos and 25-cent wings until 11 p.m.

Drinker’s Pub: 1903 Chestnut St., Philadelphia

The folks at Chickie’s and Pete’s, in both the Northeast and South Philly, aren’t sure what their Rose Bowl specials are going to be yet, but this sports bar is always alive and worth the trip for watching a game you care about.

Chickie’s and Pete’s:
South Philly: 1526 Packer Ave., Philadelphia
Northeast: 4010 Robbins Ave., Philadelphia

And one word of advice for those of you who love to watch all things sports at the sports complex. McFadden’s at the ballpark is closed New Year’s Day!
