The “Mane” Event

The Year of the Ox begins tonight

Chinese soothsayers don't seem to have many positive things to say about the upcoming year. They're predicting deeper recession woes, greater job losses and massive earthquakes – because apparently we don't have enough to stress about, now we have to be worried about falling into the middle of the earth. Oh wait, that was just a pothole.

The traditional Lion Dance and parade officially kicks off Chinese New Year at 11:00 tonight in Chinatown. Crowds will gather on 10th and Race streets to see the colorful costumes, set off firecrackers and herald in the Year of the Ox properly. Celebrations will wrap up on February 9 with the Lantern Dance.
