Take Me to the River for Free Kayaking

Mayor Nutter to be on the docks at 3 p.m. Sunday

A free kayaking program that will begin next month will get a mini-boost with an announcement near the docks by Mayor Michael Nutter Sunday afternoon.

The mayor, along with the Pennsylvania Environmental Council and the Delaware River Waterfront Corp., will be at the quay at Penn’s Landing, just south of the Independence Seaport Museum, at 3 p.m. to make it all official, uwishunu reports.  (The time, FYI, is supposed to coincide with the end of the Delaware River Sojourn, a week-long paddling trip down sections of the Delaware River.)

Through the kayaking program, Philly residents and visitors alike will be able to paddle all around Penn's Landing Marina this summer.  If that sounds a little scary, don't worry.  Kayakers will be supervised by trained staff.

Funding for this program comes from the Take Me to the River grant program, which is administered by the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission.  More information for the free kayaking program at Penn’s Landing can be found at www.pecpa.org
