It's gonna cost more to get inside the Art Museum.
Attention all art buffs -- starting Wednesday you will need to cough up an extra two bucks if you want admission into the Philadelphia Art Museum.
The museum, which is one of the largest art museums in the United States and features more than 2000 years of art, will raise its prices due to lack of funding.
“The admission increase is a response to the depressed value of the museum’s endowment and other funding shortfalls,” a museum spokesman said.
The museum has postponed exhibits, decreased employee compensation, got rid of positions and cut programs during these tough times.
“At a moment when the general economic outlook is challenging, we are adopting a modest increase in admission fees and adjusting the pay-what-you-wish policy. At the same time, we are ensuing attractive family-friendly pricing and retaining a day each month when price cannot be a barrier to any visitor for who affordability could be a concern,” Gail Harrity, the Museum’s Interim Chief Executive Officer, said.
Admission is now $16 for adults, $14 for senior citizens, $12 for children (ages 13 to 18) and free for kids 12 and under. The Museum is opened Tuesday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
