In The Ad Age

Take a nostalgic look at campaigns of the past

While you might not remember the shows you watched back in the 80s, no true generation x-er can look at the image of a frying egg without thinking, "Thatโ€™s my brain on drugs!"

A current exhibit at the Art Institute showcases the Ad Councilโ€™s public service announcements in print, outdoor and TV ads from the past 65 years. Some of the iconic campaigns on display include Rosie the Rivoter, Smokey Bearโ€™s wildfire prevention, McGruff the Crime Dogโ€™s fight against crime, โ€œFriends Donโ€™t Let Friends Drive Drunkโ€ and the never-forgettable crying Indian against pollution. The exhibit runs until April 3.
