Everyone Loves Getting Dirty

Why Patrick and Demi found delight in clay

Currently on exhibit on the first floor gallery of the Institute for Contemporary Art is "Dirt on Delight: Impulses That Form Clay." The exhibit showcases works in clay by 22 artists spanning four generations.

That stupid scene from the movie "Ghost" aside, anyone who has relished making a mud pie or squishing their hands in mud, can appreciate the basic impulse of taking a lump of something and turning it into a shape or form. Pieces on display at the exhibit range from pots to figurines to large sculptures, illustrating the breadth of the medium.

The museum is open late (until 8:00) Wednesday through Friday nights and admission is free. However, patrons who arrive singing the Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" may be denied entrance, on principal.
