Hop a bus for a summer road trip -- it's very economical

advertisement

Forget filling up that gas guzzler or paying to check your luggage at the airport, this summer, hop on the bus -- they're cheap and most are offering free 'net access.

Your best bet is the Boltbus. The East Coast line started last March through a partnership between Greyhound and Peter Pan. All the busses have free wifi and it's really, really cheap! But remember, the early bird catches the worm because fares rise the closer you get to your trip date (don't fret, even the biggest procrastinator won't pay more than $25 one-way).

The Boltbus has routes between Philly, NYC, Boston, Baltimore, and D.C.

Added perk: At least one seat per bus will only cost $1.

Boltbus isn't the only line that offers dollar fares. Grab express or non-stop service for just a buck each way on Megabus. Not only do you get free internet, you can ride in comfort on these double-deckers to eight Midwest states, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Maryland and Massachusetts.

Of course, there's always Greyhound. Although only about 102 of Greyhound's 1,250 busses have internet access, they travel to over 2,300 destinations, so you've got more options (we know, the ride will be boring, but they're working on it) -- and eventually, Greyhound's entire fleet will be replaced and passengers will have wireless internet access.

Check Greyhound's deals and discount section for the best, well, deals and discounts. Plus, if you book more than 21 days in advance, you can get up to 50% off regular ticket price.
