TV set with test bars

Are you ready for the big digital conversion?

You will be able to use your VCR / DVD player / camcorder / gaming console with a digital television set.

Digital television sets are “backward compatible,” which means existing analog equipment (VCRs, DVD players, camcorders, video games, etc.) will work on DTV sets. However, the picture will only be displayed in the maximum resolution that is available with each analog product. So your VHS tapes won’t suddenly look crystal clear.

Manufacturers are producing a number of different connectors to hook equipment together and improve picture and sound quality when DTVs are used with existing analog equipment.

Check with your retailer to determine the types of connectors that will work with your equipment.

Analog-only TVs should continue to work as before with cable and satellite TV services, gaming consoles, VCRs, DVD players, and similar products.

  • mvoyats@bellboyd.com Friday, Jun 5 at 1:58 PM FLAG COMMENT If I understand correctly, I can't watch one station while taping another with additional gadgets, boxes?
  • narkspud Sunday, Feb 8 at 8:15 PM FLAG COMMENT Ted - maybe.
  • Ted Sunday, Feb 8 at 11:48 AM FLAG COMMENT I find antenna reception is very erratic, on both HDTV LCD sets, and old analog sets with converter box, especially sensitive to weather changes, as wiind. Will the digital signal be stronger after analogue signal is gone?
  • Karl Tuesday, Feb 3 at 6:35 AM FLAG COMMENT Well, I thought I had seen a couple of them, but now, searching with both Google and Yahoo engines, I can't find one. I suspect I may have seen radios advertised as "Digital Radio" that meant only digital tuning, but still analog signals. Nothing I can find now with HD radio reception includes TV. Oh, well... Thanks.
