The H.O.P.E.S. program was developed by Glenn "Hurricane" Schwartz in 2004 in response to the fact that minorities are critically under-represented in the fields of Meteorology and the Earth Sciences. Significantly less than five percent of the total number of dedicated scientists in the United States alone are diverse.

What does this mean for the broadcast media industry? That our viewers see very few diverse weather professionals on air. The goal of H.O.P.E.S. is to plant an early seed in children who are interested in the field of meteorology. The program seeks to nurture and provide them with professional guidance and exposure to the science of meteorology.

Click here for the H.O.P.E.S. program application.

Each academic year in partnership with key diverse community organizations and area school districts, students will be identified who have an interest in meteorology and the earth sciences. Each student who is admitted into the program will participate in monthly workshops and seminars dedicated to Meteorology and Earth and Mineral Sciences.
