Emmy award-winning journalist Harry Hairston joined the NBC 10 News team on January 5, 2004, as an investigative reporter and substitute anchor.

Before working at NBC 10, Hairston was an investigative reporter at WXYZ an ABC affiliate in Detroit, Michigan. Prior to joining WXYZ, Hairston did double duty anchoring and investigative reporting at Viacom stations WKBD (UPN) and now defunct WWJ (CBS) in Detroit.

During Hairston’s tenure in Detroit he became one of the city’s most recognized television reporters. Also, through his investigative reporting Hairston gained the reputation of being a crime fighter.

Hairston's journalistic excellence and dedicated community service earned him numerous awards and citations. While in Detroit, he received an Emmy for 'best talent' in that market.  In 2008, Hairston garnered a Mid-Atlantic Emmy for 'best general assignment reporter.'

Prior to his appointment at WKBD and WWJ Hairston worked as a news reporter and anchor at WTOG in Tampa, Florida. Before that, he was an anchor/reporter for WICU-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Since joining NBC 10 News, Hairston has hit the ground running.  Within the first few months as an investigative reporter, Hairston received an Emmy nomination for reporting on the dangers of the Internet.  Also, Hairston has covered several international stories such as the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece.  While there, Hairston reported for all of the NBC owned and operated stations.

In 2002, Hairston covered Pope John Paul the second at the World Youth Fest in Toronto, Canada, and in 2001, Hairston covered the murder mystery of a college girl in Cabo San Lucas.  NBC Dateline and CBS 48 hours followed the coverage of this story.  Additionally, Hairston lead the way in breaking and uncovering the sexual assault allegations by a Canadian woman against entertainment icon Bill Cosby.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Hairston holds a bachelor’s degree from Gannon College in Erie, Pennsylvania.

Hairston and his wife, Ruth, Northeast Regional Finance Manager for General Motors reside in Mercer County, New Jersey.
